BAYLOR RIP.. TV & RADIO CBTE
Gary George Baylor passed away on Good Friday, March 29, 2024, surrounded by his wife and dear friends at his home in Metairie, Louisiana. He was born on September 2, 1941, to the late Arthur E. Baylor and the late Margaret George Baylor in La Jolla, California.
Gary was the loving husband of Carolyn Parker Baylor and the brother of Ronald T. Baylor and his wife Dody Kohl. He loved his Catherine Collette Simoneaux and his dear friends Gary and Pam Simoneaux.
Gary graduated from La Jolla High School in 1959 and studied Broadcast Journalism with a focus on Sports Information at San Deigo State University graduating in 1967. While at San Deigo State, Gary was a football team manager and PR rep for the baseball team. IN 1982, Gary moved to Metairie, Louisiana to marry his wife Carolyn and began work at WVUE TV station in New Orleans. Gary enjoyed working for Mutual Radio, CBS Radio, and NBC Radio throughout his broadcast career as a radio and TV producer and engineer. He also had the honor of attending three Olympic Games (Barcelona in 1992, Atlanta in 1996, and Sydney in 2000) as part of the broadcast team for NBC.
As Gary’s education and career centered around sports, his biggest passions in life were football and basketball. Gary was a proud member of the Louisiana High School Officials Association and enjoyed over 50 years of officiating local football and basketball games. He thoroughly enjoyed officiating and relished the opportunity it gave him to share his love of the games with his community.
Family and friends are invited to attend Gary’s memorial visitation on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, Louisiana 70001.Visitaiton will be held from 10:00am – 1:00pm. A private burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.
